Course Description:

It is the intention of SOC 201 to introduce students to the nature of sociological inquiry and research, aspects of culture, social structure, socialization, stratification, race and ethnicity, gender stratification and deviance.

Course Objectives:

  • Students will demonstrate a broad awareness of the significance of time and place.
  • Student will demonstrate a general knowledge of history, literature, the arts, math, the social sciences, language, and communication. Students will recognize how these are related.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues and the historical and cultural context from which these issues developed.
  • Students will demonstrate a knowledge of and appreciation for cultural variety.
  • Students will be able to use the library and other appropriate resources to retrieve useful information.
