GOALS:
Students will learn how to communicate in Spanish by mastering the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing and the cultural phenomena.

PRE-ASSESSMENT:
Spanish 101 is designed for those students who have had no previous instruction in Spanish or who do not qualify for more advanced courses.

GUIDELINES FOR CLASS:
Regular attendance at class is required since difficult problems are explained in class. Absences equal to 20% of the scheduled instructional time for a course will be considered “unsatisfactory progress” unless previous arrangements have been made. Please inform the instructor prior to an absence from class. The absence will not be excused. You are responsible for making up all course work and test(s) missed during an absence. In the event of unexplained absences, your instructor may administratively withdraw you from the course.

TARDINESS
Tardiness is not tolerated. Attendance is checked at the beginning of class. Three acts of tardiness equal one absence

HOMEWORK
The exercises assigned in class are supposed to be done at home as class participation for the next day. Students who miss a class should contact the instructor or a classmate to obtain the homework for the next class. The instructor is not responsible for reminding students of missed work.

TESTS
There will be seven chapters tests throughout the course. An exam is to be scheduled at the end of each one. In addition, there will be one oral test on May 4 and 5. No make-ups on test will be allowed. An excused absence requires documentation (i.e. note from a doctor).
