ITE 115 Intro Computer Applications and Concepts

Description

This course covers computer concepts and internet skills, and discusses social and ethical issues in computing. Topics include the computer system unit, the web, computer security concerns, and home networks. Students will gain practical knowledge of, and will use a software suite including a word processor, spreadsheet, database, presentation software and simple HTML code to demonstrate skills required for computer literacy. 

Beginning Fall 2011, the office productivity software used will be Microsoft Office 2010. Students will create projects in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

After this class you will be able to:

  • Differentiate between essential computer functions of input, output and processing, and hardware components that perform them.
  • Recognize various types of basic microcomputer software including operating system, programming and application software, and understand their functions.
  • Know the appropriate application of each type of software.
  • Be familiar with the operation of basic forms of software.
  • Use office productivity software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email and presentation software in real world situations.
  • Use the Internet for basic research and create a basic web page from Office products.
  • Become aware of social and ethical issues in computing.
