ITE 115, Basic Computer Literacy
Description
This course covers computer concepts and internet skills, and discusses social and ethical issues in computing. Students will gain practical knowledge of, and will use a software suite including a word processor, spreadsheet, database, presentation software and simple HTML code to demonstrate skills required for computer literacy.
After this class you will be able to:
- Differentiate between essential computer functions of input, output and processing, and hardware components that perform them.
- Recognize various types of basic microcomputer software including operating system, programming and application software, and understand their functions.
- Know the appropriate application of each type of software.
- Be familiar with the operation of basic forms of software.
- Use office productivity software such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email and presentation software in real world situations.
- Use the Internet for basic research and create a basic web page from Office products.
- Become aware of social and ethical issues in computing.
