When writing in a second language, the tendency is to think more about grammatical accuracy than about content and style. It is a difficult process to find our own voice in a second language, but it is not impossible. We can start by engaging in many of the activities that we use in our own language: brainstorming, freewriting, advanced organizers, peer editing and multiple drafts. We also become more proficient writers ourselves when we recognize just what we like about the works of authors we appreciate.
