COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduce problem solving through computer applications and via a programming language.
Examine development of computers, social and ethical implications of computers, and properties of
programming languages. Covers input, storage, data manipulation, software, and hardware. Lecture
3 hours per week.

Homework and pop quizzes 30%
Midterm Exam 30%
Final Exam 30%
Attendance 10%

90%-100% A

 

80%-89% B

 

70%-79% C

 

60%-69% D

 

Below 60% F

Attendance: Regular attendance is required in accordance with NOVA policy.
                        If students skip class each time without acceptable reason, they will
                        lose 2% out of 10%.

 

HONOR CODE:

You may ask other students for help during lab (in fact, you are encouraged to do so), but each student is expected to do their own work. Any student caught cheating on exams or copying assignments will be turned in to the Honor Committee.

  • Note: Homework late is not accepted without a good reason, otherwise will be deduced 2 points each day late.

No make-up Midterm and Final exams.  If students have problems, they must inform their reasons to instructor in advance.

·         (50 points)  In class: Do HTML homework in class

·         Download Handout 1

·         (50 points)  Take home:  Do Word Section 2 in textbook page WD2.5 (not WD2.50) through WD2.75

·         Print out with a cover page include name, homework set number, problem assigned as sample here

and upload all files to your website under folder HWset1

 

2.      Homework set 2 (due next meeting)

·         Download Handout   2

·         (50 points)  In class: Do handout and data file

 

·         (50 points) Take Home:

·         Create a webpage about the Fall season by your own design and story with all HTML technique that covered in class.

·         Use HTML to create a webpage as picture in textbook page WD1.79 by using Picture, paragraph and font/color option.

·         Print out with a cover page and upload all files to your website under folder HWset2

 

3.      Homework set 3 (due next meeting)

·         (50 points) In Class:

·   Do lab Excel 1 in textbook page EX1.13  to page EX1.77

·         (50 points) Take home:

o   Create a webpage about Halloween as sample link here  (don’t do exactly my sample). Designed by your own layout but must apply table,

o   With pictures and sounds . Download handout 3 HTML

·         Print out with a cover page and upload all files to your website under folder HWset3

 

4.      Homework set 4 (due next meeting)

·   (50 points) Do problem 5 in textbook page EX2.89-EX2.91

·   (50 points) Download homework handout here (study this one carefully for midterm)

·         Print out with a cover page and upload all files to your website under folder HWset4

5.      Homework set 5 (due next meeting)

·   Do problem 3 and 4 in textbook page EX3.83-3.85

·   (Print worksheet in both value and formula with a cover page and upload all files to your website under folder HWset5)
