  1. Briefly describe the discipline and sub-fields of anthropology and how does anthropology qualify as both a science and a humanistic discipline. How does anthropology differ form other social sciences such as sociology and what are the ethical concerns raised in the chapter.
  2. How can anthropology be 'applied'.

CHAPTER #2:

  1. How do archeologists locate a site or a locality?
  2. How are fossils identified and preserved?
  3. How does 'stratification' work and how is a site prepared and excavated?
  4. Describe the different types of dating methods and discuss the role of technology etc. in the ongoing process of discovery?

CHAPTER #3:

  1. Describe the basic principals of darwin's theory of evolution. How was his theory received and what is creationism?
  2. Starting with the Hardy-Weinberg Principal, how does natural selection work; explore the role of genetics, and what is sickle-cell anemia?
  3. How does the process of evolution produce new forms of organisms; differentiate between linear, divergent, and convergent evolution. Distinguish between species and race.

CHAPTER #4:

  1. What are the basic characteristics shared by all primates and what is the evolutionary relationship between humans and other primates?
  2. Briefly outline the important elements of primate behavior: for example sexual behavior, dominance hierarchies, tool use, etc.
