choose a book that concerns physical geology

Go to any library and choose a book
with a Library of Congress call number QE 1 through
QE
699 or a
Dewey Decimal System number 550 through 559.
- The book must be at least 150 pages long.
- It must not be a field guide, handbook or reference
work.
- It must have a publication date of 1985
or later.

read the book and write a book report
|
- Not counting the title page, your book report should be three or four
letter-sized pages, each with one-inch margins,
single-spaced lines, and 10 to 12-point font.
- In the report, answer the following questions:
- What are the title, author and publication date of the
book?
- What are the credentials of the author?
- In summary, what does the book say?
- What is the main contention
of the book? Why did the author write it?
- What are two features
that you liked about the author's style or approach?
- What is the most enjoyable or memorable thing
that you learned from the book?
- What are two aspects that you disliked about the book?
- What
is the least believable statement in the book?
- Would you recommend the book
to a classmate? Why or why not?

Use the address at the bottom of this page to send me
an email with your report included as an attachment.
I will return an acknowledgement that I have received
the report and can read it.

- Your email must be sent on or before 6 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2009.

grading
|

If you submit a well-constructed
book report following all the directions given above,
you will receive an "A".
- If you submit a readable report that ignores
a few of the directions, you will receive
a "B".
- If
you ignore many of the directions or submit an incomplete
or incoherent report, you will receive a "C".
- If your report is late, your grade will be reduced
to the next lower grade.
- If you submit no report before the end of the semester,
you will receive zero.
