Topic 4
The Rise of British Power in India

Questions for Consideration:
1.  In what way did the Revolt of 1857 mark a turning point in Indian/British relations?

2.  How did the British contribute to the rise of modern India?

3. What are some of the positive contributions of British rule in India?  What are some of the negative results?  Was British rule good or bad for India?

4. Describe the factors that led to British domination of India.  Was it the result of a deliberate British policy?  Discuss the policies of the British government after imperial control was effected.  That is, did the British try to extend her imperial control to convert India?
