| This course is problem oriented in that it is designed to discuss the current issues of the region against the nineteenth and twentieth century background. Some of the problems to be discussed include: World War I and the Young Turks of the Ottoman Empire, T.E. Lawrence and Arab Nationalism, Mustafa Kemal and the Creation of a New Nation, Western Imperialism and Eastern Sensibilities, Two World Wars and their Impact on the the Region, the Conflict between Palestine and Israel, and American Goals in the Region. | |
