Topics for Study

1.  Discuss the social, political, intellectual, and cultural reasons for the decline of Arab civilization.  What methods could the caliphs have used to avert this decline?  Discuss the weaknesses of the Abbasid Empire.
2.  Describe the economy of the Abbasid Empire?
3.  How did the position of women change during the Abbasid Empire?
4.  What caused the Crusades?  What were the purposes of the Crusaders?  Discuss the social, political and economic impact of the Crusades on the Middle East and Europe.  Were the crusades a success or a total failure?
5.  What were the major factors behind the success of the Mongols.  How was their empire ruled and why did it decline?
