How to Begin Your History Course at Northern Virginia Community College
Welcome to this History 101 course. You will need access to a computer with an
Internet connection and an Internet browser, preferably MS Explorer, to
participate in the online learning activities.
When you register and pay for your courses at NVCC, three accounts are
created for your use.
A VCCS email account, which you must use for all private communication
with your instructor or other students.
A VCCS Blackboard account, which you will use to view and complete most
course activities.
A VIVA account, which allows you to use the Virtual Library of Virginia
(VIVA).
Go to <http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart/> to learn how to access
these accounts.
Once you have your Blackboard account, you are ready to access the course
Blackboard web site. To access the online sessions of the course,
you need to open your browser and go to <http://bb.vccs.edu>
When the login screen appears, type your username in the Username text
field. The username is the first part of your NVCC student email address
before the @email.vccs.edu. For example, if your name is John Doe and your
email is jdoe0009@email.vccs.edu, then your username is jdoe0009.
If you do not know your NVCC student email address, go to either of the
following web addresses: <http://www.nvcc.edu/bbstart/> or
<http://www/ithd/studentmail.htm.>
Next, type your password in the Password text field. The password is your
date of birth (MMDDYY). For example, if you were born on Jan. 21, 1981,
your password is 012181.
If you cannot obtain your username and/or password, or if you want to
obtain additional information or technology help, navigate to the IT Help
Desk at the following web address: <http://www.nvcc.edu/ithd>
Once you have typed in your username and password, click the Login button.
Navigate to the Blackboard Portal page where you can select and enter into
the Blackboard course in which you are enrolled. Be sure to check the
Announcements page for further directions.
Remember, if you need technology help, call or email the NVCC IT Help Desk
at 703-421-4141 or ithelpdesk@nvcc.edu.
I look forward to working with you this semester and welcome any comments
or concerns you may have with this course site, the course content, or the
classroom. Remember you can always email me at jebraden@nvcc.edu. Welcome
to History 101.
