The
History of Western Civilization (HIS 101-102) is a
general survey covering major political, social, economic, cultural, and
religious changes in the areas surrounding the Mediterranean Basin and the
European continent from the prehistoric period through the Cold War.
Such an ambitious undertaking does have some limitations. Other
great world cultures are discussed only as they directly relation to
European problems. In spite of The first semester covers the major intellectual, cultural, economic, and political accomplishments from the pre-historic period through the Christian religious reformation of the sixteenth century. Topics include: the Pre-historic Period, Sumerians, Egyptians, Minoans, Mycenaean, Archaic Greeks, Classical Greeks, Hellenistic World, Early Rome, Roman Civilization, Medieval European Civilization, The Renaissance, and the Reformation
