   There existed a Neolithic Period of some 3,000 years on mainland Greece prior to the arrival of Greek-speaking sometime around 2,000 BCE.  These newcomers absorbed and adapted many of the local way while maintaining their war-like culture.

  After 1,600 these  Indo-European  Greek speaking chiefs built mountain fortifications and adopted many aspects of the Cretan culture.  This early-Greek civilization is called Mycenaean after its largest and most powerful fortification.   Homer referred to "Mycenae [as] rich in gold."

.The Mycenaean fortification sheltered the king and his band of warriors.  There governmental organization was a  military unit headed by a chief or king supported by a warrior band.  Their fortress walls were massive and constructed of very large rough cut stone.  The land was worked by a peasant class that supported this warrior-bureaucracy.
 
   Homer states that the leader of the Trojan War was the great king of Mycenae,
