Jon Burton

I normally teach American literature each semester, as well as both courses in College Composition and, on occasion, Honors Composition. I also occasionally teach the survey of British literature.

If I have a specialty, it is my passion for the writers of the American Renaissance - - Emerson, Thoreau, Melville, and Hawthorne. I am especially fond of "Moby-Dick" and Emerson's "Essays."

I have never met a student I didn't like and I have high expectations of my students and myself.

I have been teaching English on this campus since 1974  . I was born in Utica, NY and educated at the Universities of Maryland and Virginia. I also spend as much time as I can standing in a river or stream fly fishing.
