HRI 101- Hotel/Restaurant Organization and Management I

Introduces the history, opportunities, problems, and trends of the hospitality industry. Covers the organization of the various sectors of the hospitality industry including human resources, general business considerations, and management theory.

HRI 251 - Food and Beverage Cost Control I
Monday: 1:00 p.m. - 3:40 p.m.
Tuesday: 7:00 p.m. - 9:40 p.m.

Presents methods of pre-cost and pre-control as applied to the menu, purchasing, receiving, storing, issuing, production, sales, and service which result in achievement of an operation's profit potential. Emphasizes both manual and computerized approaches.

 
Professional Biography  

Howard Reichbart has been a member of the Northern Virginia Community College Faculty since August, 1970.  Prior to his arrival at NOVA, he was employed by Sonesta Hotels International as a management analyst at the Hotel America – Hartford, CT, and the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC.  Between those two positions, he served as 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army, where he served as Club Officer at Ft. MacPherson in Atlanta, GA.

He is a member of several professional associations, including the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Center for Association Leadership, and the Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Leadership (CHRIE).

He is currently an adjunct faculty member at George Washington University’s School of Business teaching Hospitality Industry Management in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management.  He previously taught as an adjunct at the University of Maryland University College, and as a visiting professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Professor Reichbart was inducted in the DC Chapter of HSMA’s Hall of Fame.

Recently served as an Evaluator for the American Council on Education at Disney University, and is a Member of the Professional Convention Management Association’s Faculty Task Force.  Mr. Reichbart serves as a member of the Destination Marketing Association International’s Student/Educator Advisory Council, and is a member of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Scholarship Committee.
