CONTENT:
AUT 242 is a
continuation of Auto Electric I (AUT 241), which places emphasis on automotive
charging/generating systems. Detailed
diagnosis and repair procedures using modern test equipment is covered in
depth. Attention is given to determine
electrical systems defects, their causes, and what repairs or adjustments are
required for repair.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion
of this course the student will be able to:
a. Develop a
thorough knowledge of the operation, testing, and service of the automotive
charging system.
b. Develop a
detailed knowledge of possible defects, trouble- shooting procedures,
diagnosis, and competency in performing repairs or adjustments necessary to
correct electrical problems.
c. Develop a
thorough knowledge of automotive lighting circuits.
d. Develop a
working knowledge of indicators and gauges.
e. Develop a
thorough knowledge of power-operated equipment.
f. Develop a
thorough knowledge of warning, security, and sound
systems.
GENERAL:
Study the entire
text, specific readings will be assigned; however, students are responsible for
both the classroom and shop texts.
STUDENT
HANDBOOK:
Students are
reminded to read Sections II, Student Conduct, Section VI, Academic Dishonesty
and Section VII Information Technology Student/Patron Ethics Agreement and NVCC
Computer Use Agreement, of the student handbook. If you have any questions or need
clarification, please ask.
Quizzes:
Expect a quiz at
the beginning of each class. Additional
written or verbal quizzes may be given at any time. In the event that you miss a quiz, you can
only take a make-up if you have a valid excuse for missing the quiz (Make-ups
may be out of class written assignments or in class presentations).
ATTENDANCE:
While attendance
is not mandatory, regular attendance is strongly recommended. The quizzes, tests, and laboratory contract
are the basis of your grade, missing class or lab will affect your ability to
pass the course. Let me know if you will
not be able to make class by leaving a message on my answering machine! Missing
three classes will drop your final grade one letter.
CLASS
START/END TIMES:
Class begins at
6:00 PM and ends at 11:45 PM on Tuesdays.
If I am delayed more than 15 minutes beyond the beginning of class,
students are instructed to contact the Automotive Lab Mechanic in the
automotive building or the Science and Technology division secretary located in
Howsman Hall ext. 6604/6605 for directions.
INCLEMENT
WEATHER POLICY:
The college
policy for canceling classes due to inclement weather is not campus specific
Class cancellation information is
available on local radio and TV stations as well as NOVANET.
IN REGARDS TO TRAVEL TO CLASS DURING
INCLEMENT WEATHER, USE COMMON SENSE. IF THE ROADS ARE UNSAFE, DO NOT DRIVE!
COURSE
WITHDRAWAL:
In the event you
are unable to complete the course requirements and you wish to withdrawal, YOU
ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLETING THE NECESSARY FORMS available at the
Admissions & Records office to obtain a "W" grade. Failure to do so on you part is a failing
grade for the course.
