Introduction

Have you ever wanted to design your own Webpage or use software to design a Website? Let's take this opportunity to learn a little html. This will satisfy one of the requirements for computer literacy requirements for the ITE 115-Introduction to Computer Literacy at Northern Virginia Community College. Who knows, you may be hired to create Web pages.

Task

Students will choose a business or company that they would like to work for and design a Web page using html. They will also explore authoring software and explore the effects of using multimedia and hypermedia in their web page.

Process

  1. Take a look at the following Websites to get an idea of what you will be learning: A Beginner's Guide to HTML, How to write HTML files, Create Your Own Web Page, and HTML Goodies.
  2. This project will take approximately two weeks to complete. The timeframe will be near the end of the course.
  3. Use the following outline to complete this assignment.
    • Students will work with a partner. The teacher makes the assignment.
    • Research and select a company that sounds like a place you would like to work for.
    • With your partner, decide what you would like to have on the Web page. Consider some of the Websites you visited earlier.
    • Decide on who will be responsible for which element(s) on the project.
    • Begin the actual creation, test links, find appropriate graphics, and incorporate any multimedia based on the following lessons in Audacity, Fireworks, Flash, and video. Take a look at this Flash movie that could be utilized in a web page on HTML Basics.
  4. Students will use webspace that has been set by the College to display their Web pages. They will practice setting this up and troubleshoot the website.
  5. Students will present their web pages to the class and instructor.
  6. Students will be available for questions and evaluations.

    Evaluation

Grades will be assigned based on participation from both parties. Both will receive the same number of points for the various objectives.
