Information for Psy 213 students

Course description: Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences is an introduction to understanding and using statistical analyses in behavioral research. You will learn how to select, compute, and interpret descriptive statistics and inferential statistical tests for a variety of research questions.

Required materials for the course:

1. Calculator with basic functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square, and square root. A memory function is useful too.

2. Textbook:

Basic Statistics for the Behavioral Science, Sixth Edition (2011, Wadsworth Cengage) by Gary W. Heiman. The cover is pictured here. Be sure to get the right book. You need to purchase or rent your own copy. The ISBN is: 978-0-8400-3143-3

 

3. A stapler to staple your assignments.

Resources for help:

1. The book's web site has practice quizzes and other resources for each chapter.

2. The Alexandria campus's Academic Center for Excellence has a math lab that offers free math tutoring. In addition, you can get specific tutoring for Psy 213 through their tutorial services. The A.C.E. is in room 229 and the phone number is 703 - 845 - 6363.

3. I have review questions for each chapter that you should use to guide your reading and studying.

4. I have a site that allows you to review research methods. Pay special attention to correlation and experiment.
