Before teaching history at Northern Virginia Community College I taught all different grades and ages of students in California, my home state.
I took courses at a Community College. After graduating from El Camino CC I transferred to UCLA where I finished my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies.
After an abortive effort to make a career in radio it took some time to pay off my student loans by making and selling stained glass windows. I entered Pepperdine University while working full time in real estate and earned my Masters degree in American History. I then moved across the country to George Washington University where I completed my Ph. D. in 2007.
Aside from my family and talking about history, my greatest interests are camping, ultimate frisbee, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
