Part 1: Timeline (10 pts)

 

Based on your understanding of the years following the conclusion of the Revolutionary War create a list of what you consider to be the

A)        ten most significant events during the period 1783-1800

B)        provide a one sentence explanation why you considered each item to be so significant.

 

Part 2: Essays (30 pts each)

 

Answer each of the following three essay questions. Use specific examples to support your arguments. It is mandatory that you use citations from the primary sources in your textbook to support your argument.

 

Essay #1: The Constitution

 

How did your state react to the proposed Constitution drafted at Philadelphia in 1787? What issues at the Convention were of greatest importance to your state? How were those issues resolved in the Constitutional Convention? What weaknesses or problems did people find/have regarding the Constitution?

 

Essay #2: Foreign Affairs

 

Trace the influence of foreign affairs on the politics of the United States during the seventeen years between 1783 and 1800.

 

Essay #3: Major Problems…

 

In your opinion, what (other than foreign affairs) was the greatest obstacle faced y the U.S. government between 1783 and 1800?

Bring your paper to class, but do NOT put your name on your paper. Instead place your STUDENT ID# on the top of your paper.

B)        provide a one sentence explanation why you considered each item to be so significant.

 

Part 2: Essays (30 pts each)

 

Answer each of the following three essay questions. Use specific examples to support your arguments. It is mandatory that you use citations from the primary sources in your textbook to support your argument.

 

Essay #1: Internal Revolution

 

“The revolution began in the hearts and minds of the people long before the first shot was fired.” – John Adams

 

Do you agree or disagree with the above quotation? Clearly state your opinion and then prove the strength of your opinion by using primary sources to support your position.

 

Essay #2: Minority/Marginalized Groups

 

Which of the following groups, Women, African or Native-Americans, gained the most during the age of Revolution? How did the events of the American Revolution shape the treatment of the group you felt gained the most?

 

In your answer start by explaining what “gained the most” means to you. Then use specific examples drawn from primary sources, to support your argument.

 

Essay #3: War Strategy

 

How did British strategy (plans for the winning the war) affect how the war unfolded? Discuss the major campaigns in the north, south and middle colonies.
