Internet Research Project
Task: Use the internet to research information on
the following topic:
Scientific efforts to replicate human sensory functions
(vision, audition, gustation, olfaction,
tactile).
Note: Replicate DOES NOT mean enhance; e.g. a hearing
aid enhances audition – it does not replicate it.
Product: The product is a presentation slide show
that identifies the efforts of the scientific community to replicate the
functions of human sensation in a single capability.
Criteria: The presentation must:
a.
Address all five senses
b.
Be no fewer than 15 and no longer
than 20 minutes in duration
c.
Include a website bibliography of at
least ten separate sites and the full URL address of each site. Websites shall
not be generic learning sites, such as, but not limited to Grolier’s,
Encyclopedia Britannica/Americana, MS Bookshelf, Amazon.com, Cnet,
ask Jeeves, etc
d.
Have an introduction, a body and a
conclusion
e.
Explain & demonstrate how each
sense functions in a human.
f.
Identify the organization(s)
performing the work, the intended use, a description of the method of
replication and a summary of the results*
g.
Intended uses of the capability
h.
How each sense functions in the replication
i.
Be presented at the designated
class, with a hard copy for the instructor, provided PRIOR to the start of the
presentation. It may be a digital presentation using PowerPoint, or an analog
presentation using an overhead projector. An overhead projector will be
available. Any other means of projecting is the responsibility of each group.
General Information:
a.
Each group is responsible for the
presentation and all group members shall participate.
b.
The group is to determine how
research will be accomplished, which member of the group has responsibility for
which activities within the project, when the group will meet to prepare (some
class time will be allocated; however, it will not be enough to complete the
project, so plan for outside class activity) and the manner in which the
presentation will occur.
c.
Your instructor will provide you
suspense dates for the various milestones of the project to include project
outline, research conduct and presentation preparation.

Humans have the ability to move small objects via
brainwave control of the molecular structure of the object. The brain
generates a series of Delta electromagnetic waves that, when polarized,
create opposite flux magnetic fields of sufficient strength to counteract the
force of gravity. See Figure 1. |

The ATF has developed a mobile
vehicle that has three functions: 1) it creates an anti-gravitational field
through the use of opposite molecular polarization, which is generated by a
pair of synchronized Vandergraaf generators,
2) it lifts objects not exceeding 50 kg. via the
anti-grav field onto a transport tray and 3) the
vehicle moves over varying terrain from the point of pickup to the point of
drop-off. The ATF research team has developed TATB (The
Artificial Telekinesis Being) known as Tabby. Tabby is a motorized chassis
employing a hydraulically articulated catch bucket,
a HAL 9000 PC, a Sony TVR 140 digital camcorder and proprietary software (see
Figure 1 at Appendix A). The operator transmits commands from a remote
mini-console via an infrared signal to the infrared receiver on the vehicle,
which relays the commands thru an IR link to the HAL CPU (see Diagram 2,
Appendix A). |
Your group
name______________________________________________________________________
Each member of the group
may receive up to 100 points. You are to decide how many of those points each
member should receive, based on their effort in contributing to the project.
