How to Contact Dr. Don Goral - fall 2008

ELI Students:

Before you can request quiz #1, you must view a mandatory eNOVA orientation session. Follow the link for details .

Note: I generally answer email messages in chronological order. I also scan subject lines for messages that I can answer quickly, such as requests for quizzes. If the subject line is not clear, this could delay my response.

My home Internet (RCN Cable modem) has been down since 11/26/08. Thus, I can only check email from campus, as I did Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. As of Wednesday evening , 12/03/08, RCN has not given me an estimated time for the resolution of this problem.

Because of limited testing center hours, please plan ahead. You should try to test early (Monday – Saturday, December 15-20) or before. Saturday, December 20 will be very busy and there could be long lines and competition for the use of the lab computers. Testing centers will be closed Sunday, December 21st which is the end date of the first session. Many Testing Centers will be closed or on reduced hours Dec 22 and 23.

The college is closed December 24-Jan 4.

Fall 2008 Course Deadlines

You can reach me via email, and you can make online or campus office appointments. I can easily be available on Tuesday and Thursday outside of my scheduled office hours, but you must request an appointment in advance to be sure that I will be in office. I generally respond to email and run eMEETINGs from home, so my schedule is very flexible.

Google Chat

At random times I will be available on Google Chat. This is text chat. In Google Chat, you can invite me with email address:

nvdgoral@email.vccs.edu

You can access this through your VCCS student email.

Also, I downloaded Google Talk. You must download Google Talk individually to your computer. This will enable us to have an audio conversation.

Online Office Hours - eNOVA

If you wish to schedule an online office hour/tutoring session for a single student or a group, please email me with a suggested day and time. My schedule is flexible, so we should be able to set something up.
I do not have scheduled eNOVA sessions. Instead, you may email me a request for an online tutoring session/office hour at any time. When I confirm that I am available at that time, I will set up a session (which only takes a few minutes), enroll you in the session, and send you instructions for logging in. I can also switch from Google Chat to eNOVA. This only takes a few minutes.

For an introduction to the eNOVA software, go to the following NVCC web page

There are two types of eNOVA sessions.

Centra Symposium is used for regularly scheduled class meetings. That requires you to log in with your student ID number and birthdate.

Centra eMEETING is what I generally use. All you need is a meeting ID number, also called an event ID.

Email - I am supposed to send confidential, academic information only to your student VCCS email address. You can access this by going to the NOVA home page, clicking on Mail & Web, and then following the instructions.
