ENG 251-252 - SURVEY OF WORLD LITERATURE I - II (3 Cr.) (3 Cr.)
Prerequisite is ENG 112 or division approval.
Examines major works of world literature. Involves critical reading and writing.
Lecture 3 hours per week.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Common Goals for Principal Literature Surveys:
- To stimulate understanding and enjoyment of literary works of the period.
- To encourage an appreciation of the works in relationship to the cultures that produced them and to evaluate their relevance and importance for current society.
- To develop the ability to read literary texts for meaning structure, and style.
- To develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through the analysis of literary works.
Objectives Specific to World Literature:
- Student will gain a familiarity with selected masterpieces of world literature.
- Student will gain a familiarity with major literary and cultural characteristics and developments.
- Student will increase his or her proficiency in literary analysis and written communication.
