ENG 251-252 - SURVEY OF WORLD LITERATURE I - II (3 Cr.) (3 Cr.)

Prerequisite is ENG 112 or division approval.

Examines major works of world literature. Involves critical reading and writing.

Lecture 3 hours per week.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Common Goals for Principal Literature Surveys:
  1. To stimulate understanding and enjoyment of literary works of the period.
  2. To encourage an appreciation of the works in relationship to the cultures that produced them and to evaluate their relevance and importance for current society.
  3. To develop the ability to read literary texts for meaning structure, and style.
  4. To develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through the analysis of literary works.
Objectives Specific to World Literature:
  1. Student will gain a familiarity with selected masterpieces of world literature.
  2. Student will gain a familiarity with major literary and cultural characteristics and developments.
  3. Student will increase his or her proficiency in literary analysis and written communication.
