I. Course Description:
    In depth study of the various perspectives in medieval and modern philosophy.  Students will learn the central ideas
    governing metaphysical, epistemological and ethical theory of late Western philosophy.  Political and aesthetic theory may
    be also addressed.

    Classics of Western Philosophy. Fifth Ed. Edited by Steven M. Cahn. Hackett Publishing Company

III. Course Schedule:
    A. First half of semester:
          Anselm
          Aquinas
          Descartes
          Leibniz
          Locke
          Berkeley
          Hume
     B. Second half of semester
          Kant
          Hegel
          Kierkegaard
          Mill
          Nietzsche
          Sartre

IV. Requirements:
    A. Midterm Exam—several essay questions from first half of semester
    B. Final Exam—essay questions from second half of semester (not cumulative)
    C. Analytical Essay—must be 5 to 8 pages typed, 12 pt font, double-spaced.
    D. Attendance—Students must check after class with the professor if late.  Absence of 25% or more of total classes will
        result in no credit for the course.  No credit is given if the student leaves before a class is dismissed.

V. Grading:
     Participation and Attendance: 20 %
     Essay: 20 %
     Midterm: 30 %
     Final: 30 %
