Syllabus

I. Course Objective:

Student will learn and demonstrate understanding of metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical theories of traditional philosophy.

II. Course Textbooks:

CLASSICS OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY, Edited by Steven M. Cahn Fifth Edition. Hackett.
 

III. Course Calendar: (subject to change)

First half of the course: Descartes, Hobbes, and Leibniz.
 

Second half of the course: Aristotle, Kant, and Sartre.
 

V. Grading: (subject to change)

1. Four sit-down essay exams, each one hour. One essay is a take-home exam.

2. Final Exam: In-class essay exam, two hours.

3. Attendance is required. Please check after class with instructor if you are late. Absence of approximately 25%

of actual class time results in no credit for the course.
