What would the rate of nerve impulse transmission  be in miles per hour on a large myelinated axon  if the conduction velocity is 120 meters per second? Show all work and round the answer to the nearest whole number.

Solution
1 meter = 3.28 feet; 1 mile = 5,280 feet
Rate(feet/sec) = 120 meters/sec x 3.28 feet/meter = 393.6 feet/sec
Rate(miles/hour) =(393.6 feet/sec x 60 secs/min x 60min/hour) ÷ 5,280 feet/mile = 268 miles/hour
