Placement Information

NVCC does not have a formal placement test for foreign language courses.  You may speak with a faculty member and ask advice on which course best meets your current level.  You may register for any course you wish, as the prerequisites are only recommendations.  We only want your success in the courses.

As a general rule of thumb, if it has been more than one year since your last foreing language course, we recommend you drop back one level.

The CLEP tests (College Level Examination Program) will award students credits for achieving a certain level on the foreign language exams.  These are administered only at the Alexandria campus.  Click here for more information on the CLEP test.
