George Mason University: You can find more information about NVCC IST/IT transfers to the George Mason University's B.S. in IT degree at this site (especially the many issues to consider here at NOVA BEFORE you transfer):
http://ait.gmu.edu/transferinformation.htm
Here is some good information about the GMU B.S. in IT degree
as a major. In fact, it would be helpful for you to explore the
entire site at ait.gmu.edu
GMU has a cut-off date for accepting
transfer
applications from NOVA students for their Fall 2008 Semester. You
should be aware that the NOVA/GMU articulation agreement does NOT
provide that students can get in whenever they apply. If you think that
it is an unreasonable
policy,
just think about these requirements: all schools (GMU) have to have
some
projection of how many students will plan to attend classes.
Tthey have
to have classrooms and faculty available for those classes.
Our A.S. in IT degree
is tied to the GMU B.S. in IT degree program.
University of Mary Washington - James Monroe Center: University of Mary Washington - James Monroe Center (Stafford VA campus) will accept all credits from NOVA IST/IT specializations. Our students will transfer in with a junior status. You can find further information at:
This winter, the General Assembly passed legislation
that would allow qualified students to earn a four-year
degree but at a community college price! Academically-proven students
who earn their associate degree and meet certain financial need
requirements could benefit from the proposed Community College Transfer
Grant program (CCTG). In the 21st century global economy, a bachelor's
degree has never been more critical to a person's career and financial
success. This grant will help ensure students are able to transfer from
their community colleges to four-year universities and earn a
bachelor's degree - which will increase their lifetime earnings,
contribute more to the state’s tax base, and help fuel the economy of
the Commonwealth. This is a great piece of legislation!

One of
the fastest
growing areas of Information Technology is Information Security.
Government
Jobs in that field require security clearances. Other desirable jobs
require
them too. Yet, many students and faculty don’t know as much as they
should
about this important topic. Students
today often use social
networks like MySpace and Facebook to post
private issues, events, and activities about themselves and other
people with
little understanding
of the fact that this information is available to everybody, forever.
