CHAPTER 9-New Product Development

OVERVIEW

This chapter discusses the development and marketing of new products.  It reviews the advantages and disadvantages of small businesses in developing products, methods of brainstorming, criteria for successful introduction, and legal protection of the product.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • To become aware that new product development is a high-risk endeavor.
    • To be able to explain why small companies can develop products more easily than large companies can.
    • To know several ways of brainstorming to develop new ideas.
    • To be able to identify the factors needed for a successful new product. 
    • To comprehend the types of legal protection available for new products. 
 

Format for Discussion Questions: Typed, (Question in bold) followed by your answer. May be submitted in class paper copy, email, or Blackboard.
