Network Segmentation
If there is more traffic on a LAN than the network circuit and media access protocol can handle, the solution is to divide the LAN into several smaller segments (network segmentation).
Most servers can handle up to as many as 16 separate networks or network segments, simply by adding one NIC into the server for each network. Adding NICs, however, slows processor speed as the server monitors and manages each NIC.
