Merge Cells Add Rows or Columns Delete Rows or Columns

Once you have mastered the basic table and learned how to control the look of the data in the individual table cell, you will want to create more complex table designs.

Merge Cells

You can make a cell span two or more rows or columns.

To merge two or more cells so that they span more than one row or column:

  • Highlight the cells you want to merge.
  • Choose Table, Join Selected Cells from the Main Menu.

To reverse the procedure, highlight the merged cell and choose Table, Split Cell from the Main Menu bar.

Add Rows or Columns  

You can add more table rows by inserting your cursor in the last cell in the last row and hitting the tab key.

You can also add more rows or columns to the middle of your table. Insert your cursor in the location where you want to add more rows or columns. Choose Table Insert from the Main Menu, move your cursor over the arrow, and use the submenu to choose the exact element you want to add and its position relative to your cursor.

Delete Rows or Columns  

You can also delete table elements.

Insert your cursor in the location where you want to delete rows or columns. Choose Table, Delete from the Main Menu, move your cursor over the arrow, and use the submenu to choose the exact element you want to delete.

You can also quickly delete a particular row or column.

Adjust Table

To quickly delete a table column, position your cursor in the column and click on the Merge columns. To quickly delete a table row, position your cursor in the row, and click on the Merge row.
