| • Create a Standard Definition List • Create a Reverse Indent Definition List • |
| The easiest way to order information on a web
page is to create a list.
The definition list is used to create a glossary of terms or to add a brief description to each list item. |
The following definitions of parts of a letter of the alphabet are placed in what is normally termed a definition list: |
|
The term appears flush to the margin, and the definition is indented on the line below the term. |
| Create a Standard Definition List |
To create the standard definition list illustrated above, insert your cursor where you want to start your list. Then go to Format, List, Term, on the Main Menu bar. |
![]() |
Start typing your list. The first time you hit the Enter key, the cursor will indent. From that point on, hitting the Enter key will cause your cursor to alternate between no indent and an indent. |
To stop generating the list, hit the Enter key twice to keep your cursor at the left margin. |
| Create a Reverse Indent Definition List |
You can also create a list in which the first line is indented and the second line appears flush to the left margin. Here is an example: |
|
To create the type of reverse indent definition list illustrated above, insert your cursor where you want to start your list. Then go to Format, List, Definition., on the Main Menu bar. |
Start typing your list. Your first line will indent. When you hit the Enter key, the cursor will return to the left margin. From that point on, hitting the Enter key will cause your cursor to alternate between an indent and no indent. |
To stop generating the list, hit the Enter key twice to keep your cursor at the left margin. |
