A hyperlink is a direct connection from the current location of the cursor to another location.

Often you will want to provide a hyperlink from one page on your own web site to another page on the same site.

A link to another page (i.e., file)  in your own web site  is called a relative hyperlink.

To create an relative hyperlink in Composer,

  • Highlight the clickable text.
  • Click on the Link button button on the Composition toolbar.

Alternately, you can click on Insert, Link from the Main Menu.

In both cases, the Link Properties dialog box appears.

Link Properties

Note that the Link Text (in the example above the words "home page") appears at the top of the dialog box.

Click on Choose File and navigate to the file within your web site folder that you wish to hyperlink to. Click on Open; when you are returned to the Link Properties dialog box the URL is relative to page location checkbox should be checked. (You may have to close the dialog box and reopen it to see the check.)

Click on OK.

If you click on the Link button without highlighting the link text, the Link Properties dialog box will have a place for you to enter the Link Text.

When you have entered both the Link Text and the local file, the linked text will display on your web page.
