A hyperlink is a direct connection from the current location of the cursor to another location. Most familiar to web site visitors is the hyperlink that takes them to another place on the web. For example, when you use a search engine it presents you with a list of hyperlinks to a variety of web sites that might have the information you are looking for. Such a link is called an absolute hyperlink. The absolute hyperlink goes out to a file external to the current web site. |
To create an absolute hyperlink in Netscape Composer,
Alternately, you can click on Insert, Link from the Main Menu. In both cases, the Link Properties dialog box appears. |

Note that the Link Text (in the example above the words "home page") appears at the top of the dialog box. Put your cursor in the Link Location text box, then type in the complete URL (including the http:// protocol) of the web page to link to. Reminder: the format for an absolute link is the complete URL of the web page being linked to: http://www.nvcc.edu/home/ataormina |
HINT: To ensure accuracy, open the target web page in your browser window, highlight the URL, right click on it and choose Copy, then return to Composer. Insert your cursor in the Link Location text box, then type Control + P to paste the URL in the text box. Click on OK. |
If you click on the Link button without highlighting the link text, the Link Properties dialog box will have a place for you to enter the Link Text. |

When you have entered both the Link Text and the URL, the linked text will display on your web page. |
