Preview a Page

You should save your web page and preview it in a browser every time you add material to the page.
Save a Page To save your file:
  • Go to File Save As in Notepad's main menu and the Save As dialog box will appear.
  • In the Save in dropdown box at the top of the dialog box, scroll to and open the drive and folder where you want to keep your web page files.
  • Name your file mypage.htm (or whatever you want to  name it; just be sure you add the .htm extension to your file name).
  • In the Save as type dropdown box, choose Text Documents.
  • Click on Save.
Reminder: Use lower case letters and no spaces when you choose a file name.

After you have saved your page, activate your browser (either Netscape or Explorer). If your browser is not already open, double click on the browser shortcut icon on the Windows desktop.
Preview a Page From the main menu bar in your browser, choose File, Open Page (Netscape Navigator 4.5) or File, Open (Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0).

Browse to your file or type in your file name (a:\homepage\mypage.htm). Click Open to view your page.

Note: If you have an earlier version of a browser, you might need to choose Open Page in Browser or Open File instead.
Important:  When you make any changes to a page, you must save it before you can preview the changes in your browser.

If your browser is already displaying a page you  have changed and saved, click on the Reload or Refresh button to see the changes.
