Add a Background Image a Page

You can put a patterned background on your page.

The background is usually a rather small image file that has been constructed in such a way that when it tiles, or repeats across the page, it looks like a seamless wallpaper pattern.

I prefer tiled backgrounds to background color because I think they provide depth of field that makes reading a monitor easier on the visitor's eyes.

However, the background should be unobtrusive; it should have a light and subtle pattern.   Choose text and link colors that provide sufficient contrast with the background pattern.

Many free graphics sites on the Web provide a wide range of tiled background files.

If you wish to insert a tiled background image on your page:
  • Choose Format, Background on the Main Menu.
  • The Page Properties dialog box will appear.
  • Choose the Background tab.
Page Properties
  • Choose Background Image.
  • Click on Browse to navigate to the file you wish to use as your page background.
  • Be sure to change the text and hyperlink colors if necessary to provide contrast.
