Open a Web

When you are ready to create a web site, you should keep all of the files associated with that web site in one folder.

As you create the individual pages of your web site, you will want to create a navigational scheme that uses relative hyperlinks to connect one page within your web site to another.

Thus, before you create a web, you should create a folder on your local computer which will contain all of the material associated with your web site.

To create a new folder:
  • From your computer desktop, click on My Computer
  • Open a window for the drive/directory where you want to put the new folder.
  • Right click anywhere on a blank space in the window.
  • Choose New, Folder from the pop-up menu
  • Name the new folder that appears.
Create a New Web Now you are ready to create a new web in Front Page 2000.

You can, if you wish, choose a template on which to base your web site.  However, you are more likely to prefer to build a web site from scratch.

To create a new blank web site, use the following procedure:

  • Choose Empty Web.
  •
  • By default the web will be created in the MyWebs folder on your hard drive.
  • If you wish to put your web in the folder you just created, use the drop down box on the right side of the dialog box to choose the drive and directory where you will want to save your web.
  • To create the web on a diskette, type the drive and the name of the folder you previously created in the text box.

Example:   a:\myweb

  • Click on OK.
If you open your new web folder, you will note that there are already some folders in your web:
  • private: a folder that contains files necessary to run the advanced features of FrontPage 2000
  • images: the folder where you will place all of your images
Open a Web  To open an existing web site,
  • Choose File, Open Web from the main menu.
  • Navigate to the drive and folder that contains your web.
  • Click on Open.

You will be returned to Normal Page view where a new blank page will be displayed.
