Create Relative Links

A hyperlink is a direct connection from the current location of the cursor to another location.
Often you will want to provide a hyperlink from one page on your own web site to another page on the same site.

A link to another page (i.e., file)  in your own folder is called a relative hyperlink.

To create a relative hyperlink in FrontPage 98
  • Highlight the clickable text.
  • Choose the Hyperlink button (the icon of the globe with a link on it) on the Standard toolbar.

The Create Hyperlink box will appear. By default the URL will already contain the http:// protocol.

To create a relative hyperlink to another file in your folder:

  • Check the Look in box at the top of the dialog box.  If it is not displaying the folder that contains the file you wish to hyperlink to, click on the drop down menu and choose the folder you desire.
  • Scroll through the list of files in the large text block, and highlight the name of the desired file. It will appear in the URL text box.
  • Note that only the file name appears in the URL box.
  • Click on OK.
To look further for the folder:
  • Click on the Make a hyperlink to a file on your computer button located to the right of the URL text box.
  • The Select File dialog box will appear.
