A hyperlink is a direct connection from the current location of the cursor to another location.

Often you will want to provide a hyperlink from one page on your own web site to another page on the same site.

A link to another page (i.e., file)  within your own web site folder is called a relative hyperlink.

To create a relative hyperlink to another file in the current web site in Dreamweaver

  • Highlight the clickable text.
  • Click on the Browse for File button Browse for file button next to the Link text box in the Properties panel.
  • The Select File dialog box will open. Navigate to the file within your web site that you want to link to, then click on OK.
Relative Link text

If you are working on a large web site with more than one folder and you are linking from a file in one folder to a file in a different folder in the same web site, the link will be displayed with a pathname to designate the relationship between files in different folders in the same web site.

Path Link Text or Path Up link text

To ensure that the path to the hyperlink is correct when you are creating a relative link, always browse for the file to hyperlink.
