You can put a patterned background on your page. The background is usually a rather small image file that has been constructed in such a way that when it tiles, or repeats across the page, it looks like a seamless wallpaper pattern. |
For example, here is some text set against a tiled background image. |
I will often use tiled backgrounds instead of background color because the tiled image provides depth of field that sometimes makes reading a monitor easier on the visitor's eyes. However, the background should be unobtrusive; it should have a light and subtle pattern. Choose text and link colors that provide sufficient contrast with the background pattern. Many free graphics sites on the Web provide a wide range of tiled background files. I have listed a few of them on the Graphics Links page in the Web Design Center. |
If you wish to insert a tiled background image on your page:

Click on Browse to navigate to the file you wish to use as your page background. When you select the image, the pathname will appear in the Background Image text box. Be sure to change the text and hyperlink colors if necessary to provide contrast. Click Apply to make the changes on your page. |
