Create a Local Web Site
| Before you begin to work on a web site,
you should set up a folder on a local drive (that is, a drive on your
own computer or computer network) where you will hold the pages of your
site.
As you develop the individual pages of your site, save all of them to this folder. When you are ready to post your site on the web, you will be moving the contents of your local folder to your folder on the server of your internet service provider. |
| When you open Dreamweaver for the first time, you see a dialog box that reminds you that you have not yet set up this local root folder. | ||
| Click on the Define Sites button. The Define Sites dialog box will appear. | ||
| Click on the new button. A site definition dialog box will appear. | ||
| Choose Local Info in the Category box to the left.
Provide a name for your site in the Site Name text box. Click on the folder icon to the right of the Local Root Folder text box. Navigate to the drive on your local computer or network where you want to keep your web site. Choose the folder for your site by double-clicking on it. |
| NOTE: If you have not yet created a folder for your site, do so now by clicking on the new folder button in the upper right corner of the Open box. |
| Dreamweaver will place the folder name in the Local Root
Folder text box.
Click on OK and you have defined a root folder for your web site. |
| To create additional local root folders, choose Site, Define Sites from the main menu bar to bring up the Define Sites dialog box. | ||
| Follow the steps outlined above to create an additional site. | ||
