Create Relative Links

A hyperlink is a direct connection from the current location of the cursor to another location.
Often you will want to provide a hyperlink from one page on your own web site to another page on the same site.

A link to another page (i.e., file)  in your own folder is called a relative hyperlink.

To create a relative hyperlink in Dreamweaver
  • Save your file to your web site folder.
  • Highlight the clickable text.
  • Choose the Browse for File folder on the Property Inspector.

  • Scroll through the list of files in the large text block, and highlight the name of the desired file. It will appear in the URL text box.
  • Note that only the file name appears in the URL box.
  • If necessary, set the Relative To dropdown menu to Document
  • Click on OK.

The file name will appear in the Link text box in the Property Inspector.
