Create a Scrolling Text Box
| The Text Block | A scrolling
text box allows the user to write a response in a larger
space.
Scrolling text boxes are useful for short answer responses. A scrolling text box can hold up to 32,700 characters. Scroll bars will appear in the text box if they are needed. |

Why are you taking this class?
| To add a text box to your web page using Dreamweaver, you can choose Insert, Form Objects, Text Field from the main menu. | ||
| You can also click on the Insert Text Field button on the Forms Object Panel. |
| If you have not already created a form field to hold your form element, a dialog box will appear and you will be asked whether you want to add a form tag to your page. | ||

| To function, a text block must
be placed within a form field.
Click on Yes. Your text block will appear and be surrounded by a dotted red line. This dotted line delineates the form field. |
| Notice that when you insert a text field the Property Inspector displays the attributes of that form element. | ||
![]() |
| Select the Multi line radio button on the center right of the Property Inspector. | ||
| In the TextField
text box on the left side of the Property Inspector, fill in the
Name of your text box. Use a name that will identify
the information being collected in this part of the form. In my example
above the name might be why.
If you wish text to appear in the text block, enter that text in the Init Val text block. Enter a value in the Char Width text box if you wish to control the look of the text box on the screen. Enter a value in the Num Lines text box if you wish to limit the amount of data a user can enter in the text block. |
