Tour HomeSite 1.2

HomeSite 1.2 is the freeware version of a powerful HTML text editor.

To use HomeSite requires basic knowledge of HTML.

With a myriad of toolbar buttons and an interface similar to that of many Microsoft products, HomeSite takes the drudgery out of typing HTML codes.

The freeware version does require an external browser for viewing files.

Install HomeSite HomeSite is available on the CD-Rom that is on overnight reserve at the Loudoun Library Circulation Desk.

You can also download HomeSite from the Student Support page.

Once you have copied HomeSite to your own computer's hard drive, double click on it to start the installation.  Follow the easy on-screen directions.

Once HomeSite is installed on your computer, access it by going to Start, Programs, HomeSite1.2, HomeSite 1.2.

You can also double-click on a HomeSite shortcut that you have placed on your  desktop.

A title and credit screen will appear. Then the HomeSite program will open.

Across the top of the screen will be the dropdown menus and the toolbars.

The narrow left hand column contains the directory list and below it the files in the open directory.

The wider right hand column contains your work area.

HomeSite 1.2 allows you to open only one file at a time.

To use HomeSite you can highlight existing text and select tags. The program will apply these tags to the highlighted text.

Or you can select tags and insert text between the tags.

You can select some tags from the main menu and dropdown boxes.

You can also select tags from toolbar buttons.

HINT: To more easily see all of the available toolbar buttons, choose Options, Toolbar Layout, Horizontal from the main menu bar.
Let's take a closer look at the menus and toobars.

HomeSite uses many of the same drop-down menu lists and toolbar button icons as Microsoft programs.

At the very top of the screen is the main menu bar with drop-down menus.

You can access all of HomeSite's commands from these menus.
Just below the main menu bar is the main toolbar. It contains shortcut buttons for the most common commands.
The first three buttons are the familiar New, Open, and Save buttons used to start a new file, open an existing file, and save the current file in Windows-based programs.
