Create a Page Template
When you begin to create a new web site, first
create the folders that will house the web page files and the web page images.

| You now have a folder called homepage on your diskette and a folder called images within your homepage folder. | ||
| All of the document files for the pages in
your web site should be saved to your homepage folder. All of the graphic images that will appear on your pages should be saved to the images folder inside your homepage folder. |
||
| A template is a model page that you can use as a starting
point for your work. Every web page contains some very basic HTML code that tells the browser some essential information. To save yourself the trouble of constantly recreating this basic code, create a template file that you can use over and over again as the starting point for all of the pages in your web site. |
||
| It's easy to generate a web page template in HomeSite. | ||
| First, start HomeSite 1.2 and use the pull down arrow in the drive area on the left to navigate to your homepage folder. | ||

||
| There are two ways to access the Quick Start dialog box. | ||
| Method 1: Choose File, New from the main menu bar. When the New HTML Document box appears, choose Quick Start. | ||
| Method 2: Click on the Quick Start button on the Quick Tab; it's the button with the little yellow circling arrow. |
|
|
| With either method, the Quick Start dialog box will appear. | ||

||
| From here you can choose a background color or
insert a background image, and change the default colors of your text and hyperlinks
if you wish. Click OK and you will be brought back to the main HomeSite screen. Your cursor will already be inserted between the <BODY></BODY> tags. |

Add other standard contents such as your address footer and the navigation bar for the web site you are working on. Save the page. Give it a name such as mytemplate.htm. To use this file as a template for all of the pages in your web site:
At this point you will have two files, your original, unchanged mytemplate.htm file and the new file. You can repeat this process every time you want to create a web page using the values, navigation bar, and address footer you placed in your mytemplate.htm file. |
