A fifteen-year-old boy named Gerard confesses a murder to a psychiatrist, then describes the odd family collected by a wanderer named Lone and developed into Homo gestalt, a complex organism consisting of Baby, a computer, the teleporting black twins Bonnie and Beanie, the telekinetic Jane, and Gerard himself, a telepath who also functions as the organism's control.
