Awards and Reading Lists

Hugo Award: Begun in 1953, these awards are named for Hugo Gernsback.

Awards are chosen by popular vote by fans who attend the annual World Science Fiction Convention.

Hugos generally reflect fan tastes and interests.

Nebula Award: Begun in 1966 and awarded for fiction published the previous year.

Awards are chosen by the membership of the Science Fiction Writers of America.

Awards are considered to be a product of a more literary judgment. They serve as a counterweight to the Hugos.

Locus Polls: results of voting by subscribers to Locus: the Newspaper of the Science Fiction Field
