Compost my compost heap.

I Love Trash!
--Oscar the Grouch

Composting is a way to turn trash into treasure. It is the oldest and easiest resource recovery method.

A compost heap is used to recycle yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, trimmings, and twigs) and selected kitchen waste (vegetable matter, coffee grounds, rinsed egg shells). The result is a rich humus which is such a valuable addition to your soil that gardeners call it "black gold."

Composting has two major benefits:

  • you save money because you don't need to buy someone else's prepared soil conditioners, and
  • you help reduce the amount of solid waste going into landfills.

Composting is easy and space efficient. All you need is a space about 3 feet x 3 feet x 3 feet.
