Kiska means "kitty" in Russian. Blokhie means "fleas" in Russian. Yes, he was infested when we found him. Bagheera was named from The Jungle Book! |
It seems that wherever I go I am not without animals for long. After I moved
into my own apartment I adopted Kiska from a foreign service family that was leaving post. My husband is also an animal lover. He is the one who, six months later, suggested we take in Blokhie from the streets.
I don't know what it is about Russian cats, but they are very people-oriented and exceptionally sweet natured. When we moved back to the USA, we brought the cats with us and they made the transition without a hitch. |

This is Kiska. Isn't she cute? We brought her back from Russia and she now lives with friends in Maryland. |
This is Blokhie. He was abandoned outside our apartment when he was about 4 months old. When we applied for export papers for him, we found out he is a pure breed Siberian! |

Here is Kiska sleeping on the balcony among my broccoli plants. Yes, I had an "urban garden" in Moscow! |
OK, this isn't my cat. She belongs to "my" Russian family in St. Petersburg. Her name is Bagheera. |
