Create a web site
on a diskette
- Create
a folder on the diskette for your web site. Call it myweb
- Open
FrontPage
- Choose
File, New, Web from the menu bar.
- When
the New dialog box opens, choose Empty Web.
- Use
the drop down box on the right side of the dialog box to navigate to a:\myweb.
Note that there are already some folders in your web:
- private:
a folder that contains files necessary to run the advanced features of
FrontPage 2000
- images:
the folder where you will place all of your images

Open
the homepage template and save it as your own document.
Note: you can
also open the homepage template on the web, then save it to your diskette. The
page is available at http://loudoun.nvcc.edu/home/templates/factemp4.htm
- In
FrontPage, choose File, Open
- Navigate
to the L drive (the Loudoun web server)
- Open
the templates folder
- Choose
factemp4
- When
the file opens, choose File, Save As
- Change
the page title to [yourname] Home Page
- Rename
the file default and save it to your myweb folder on the a:\
drive

template and save it as your own document
Note: you can also open the syllabus template on the web
and save it to your diskette. It is available at http://loudoun.nvcc.edu/home/templates/syltemp.htm
- In
FrontPage, choose File, Open
- Navigate
to the L drive (the Loudoun web server)
- Open
the templates folder
- Choose
syltemp
- When
the file opens, choose File, Save As
- Navigate
to your a:\ drive and save the file in the myweb folder
- When
you are returned to the page, choose File, Save As again.
- This
time rename the file with the name of your course and year (e.g. mth151f01)
- Change
the title of the file
- Save
it to your myweb folder on the a:\ drive.

Copy your syllabus to your syllabus web page
- Open
your syllabus in Word
- Choose
Edit, Select All to highlight the entire syllabus.
- Choose
Edit, Copy to copy the entire syllabus to the clipboard.
- Return
to your syllabus file in FrontPage
- Insert
your cursor in the blank table cell.
- Choose
Edit, Paste to paste your syllabus in the web page
- Save
the page
HINT: Scroll
through your syllabus and reformat it as necessary.
To move a paragraph to a new line without double-spacing use Shift + Enter (soft
carriage return).
NOTE: You now have a syllabus page template
that you can reuse as much as you want. Just remember to use the File, Save As
command when you want to create a web page with a syllabus.
Edit
your home page
- Return
to the default file. Replace
the template information with your own information.
- Remember
to save your file periodically
Create an
absolute hyperlink
- Highlight
the words NVCC Home Page on the navigation bar of your web page.
- Click
on the globe with link icon on the toolbar

- Type
the URL of the college web site: www.nvcc.edu
in the URL text box.
- Click
on OK
- Repeat
the process with the Loudoun Campus Home Page link

Create a
relative hyperlink
- On
your home page, highlight the name of the course you placed in the syllabus
template.
- Click
on the globe with link icon on the toolbar

- Navigate
to the myweb folder on your a:\ drive and choose the syllabus file
you just created. Note that the file name rather than a complete URL appears
in the URL text box
- Click
on OK
- Return
to your syllabus page and repeat the process with the link to your home page

Create an email
link in your address footer

Highlight the phrase in your address footer where you want your
email to appear
·
Click on the globe with link icon on the toolbar
·
Click on the envelope icon next to the URL text box
·
Type in your email address
·
Rremember the new domain name:
[yourname]@nvcc.edu)

Click on OK

Insert a date stamp in your address footer

Place your cursor next to the phrase Last revised in your
address footer
·
Choose Insert, Date and Time from the main menu. The Date
and Time Properties dialog box will appear.

Select Date this page was last edited
·
Choose a format for your date
·
Click on OK

Insert
an image file
·
Place your cursor in the location where you want the image to
appear
·
Choose Insert, Picture, From File on the menu bar
·
Navigate to the templates folder on the L drive
·
Open the images folder. Select newlogo
·
When the image appears on your screen, right click on the image.
The Picture Properties box will appear.

Add a brief description of your image to the Text box.

Save a file to your web
- It
is good practice to use the Save As command when you save a file to
your web.
- When
you save a file with an image, the Save Embedded Files dialog box
should appear
- Check
to be sure that the images that appear on the page have been saved to the
images file in your myweb folder.
- If
they have not, click on Change Folder to navigate to the images
folder.
- When
you are returned to the Save As dialog box, click on OK
- Be
sure that you have given your page the correct title
